Practice Sessions

Participants that have not been in the Spelling Bee before, are invited to attend a drop-in practice session run by volunteers with the Barrie Literacy Council Spelling Bee. The practice sessions are intended only to familiarize participants with the format the Barrie Literacy Council Spelling Bee will follow. New participants are encouraged to attend one practice session. It is not necessary to remain at the practice session for the entire afternoon as various practice rounds will be offered.

Practice sessions will take place January 16 and 17, 2010 between 1 and 3 pm.

Qualifying Rounds

Participants MUST sign in 30 minutes prior to their scheduled start of the competition.
No participant will be permitted to join the competition once the Spellmaster has given the
first word. The number of participants who will progress to the final competition will be at the discretion of the Barrie Literacy Council.
Participants must participate in their grade category's qualifying competition in order to receive their prize bags. All qualifying competitions will be held in the Centre Court of the Kozlov Shopping Centre.

Grades 7-8	3 pm	Saturday January 30

 

Finals

Up to 10 participants from Grades 1-6 and up to 20 in the Grade 7-8 category from the preliminary rounds will proceed to the finals on February 20, 2010. Final prizes will be awarded to the top first, second and third place winners in each grade category. Participants MUST sign in 30 minutes prior to the start of their competition.

The finals will be held in the Centre Court at the Kozlov Shopping Centre.
